Good News, Bad News

Well I may as well get the bad news over with first.

I did terrible eating on Christmas day.

Seems I have a real problem with home made, cut out and iced Christmas cookies.

I love them!!

Especially the stars.

I can just break off a couple of rays and walk away…

sadly I always went back and just kept breaking off.

My sis in law makes the best caramels.

This year she brought them in the pan. So I could just sliver off a slice….

little, by little, by little, by little…. see a pattern?

There were other things I ate that were out of my norm.

All of this resulted in me feeling physically terrible.

My tummy was a churning, and spinning. So much that I thought I must be getting the flu.

I woke up on Christmas morning to the sounds of one of my children wretching his guts out. By 3:00 that day another son was sick. This is another whole story and it is not very pretty so I think I will just stop there.

But you get the point… My body does not like high amounts of fats and sugar so much that I felt physically sick.

This is probably a good thing.

Now for the good news. My sweet family got me a Wii and a Wii fit for Christmas.  ( okay in all honesty I told them it was all I wanted and I would help pay ) My sweet hubby went in with them and I received this very extravagant gift.

Although so far I have to wait to get a turn. Seems they all like the Wii.

I think I am really going to like it.

The Wii tells it like it is.

The first time I stepped on it went ….OHHH! ( kind of like an OH MY! )

Sorta of irritating.

Then it told me I was obese.

Kinda hurtful!

Then it said my Wii age was 52.

Very disturbing!!

But after I did a few things on it I went back and did a few more tests to determine my Wii age and it said I was 34!!

Liking that!

So I can’t wait to do it again today!

Even though it’s insulting, it is also challenging, encouraging  and so far makes exercise fun.

I think it is going to be a good thing for me.

Have a great day!

Small Victories

So the other day I was super busy. Which resulted in me being in town at about 7:00 with no supper eaten.

I was feeling pretty hungry.

I still had to stop at the grocery.

My mind was doing battle….

one little bacon cheeseburger won’t hurt…

a few fries…

a taco…

And really none of these things are terrible

But me giving into myself would be.

Plus I would scarf it down and want more.

Not cool!

So I compromised

I bought a bunch of bananas at the grocery. put all but one in the trunk.

Ate it while I finished up in town. Then went home and ate supper with my hubby.

Small victory!

Small victories win big battles! :)

Day One

Wow! it has been so long since my last post I have almost forgotten how to blog!

Today is the 1st day of my Christmas break.

Even though school was cancelled yesterday. I still went in for part of the day.

So today is truly day one of Christmas break for me!!

I took full advantage.

I slept in!! I actually still woke up at normal time. I had to force myself back to sleep :)

Now I am going to work out. Yep me and Leslie ( That is Leslie Sansone Dvds)

I have been slacking in the exercise area. My 5-7 times a week have dwindled to 1-3 if I am lucky.

I really want to change that around. Too be honest I haven’t felt as good.

My eating is not what it should be either.

I have been snacking to much.

So then I skip meals to make up for the snacking.

Which usually leads to more snacking.

So today is day one for me to getting back to that more disciplined Susie.

Starting with more exercise, more veggies, more protein and less snacks.

Everyday is a new day to try harder and do better.

My goal is to get through this eating holiday with no weight gained!!!

Wish me luck!!

Twice within a week!!

Today School was cancelled due to fog!!

I still worked but did get to come home a few hours early.

Part of my job is being the ECA Treasurer. ECA stands for Extra Curricular Accounts.

Basically I write checks, make deposits and keep the books for all the clubs in MS and HS.

It keeps me really busy.

At the end of every month I get to reconcile the account.

This may not mean much to you but it is so sweet when everything matches right down to the penny!!!  Today it did!!

Huge YEAH!!!

WOW! that feels great!

Now I am knocking on wood :)

This weekend I begged, pleaded and yes demanded pics for the Christmas card.

My brother Sam took them for me in our back yard.

Here are a few samples….

Bear in mind they still need editing.

You would never guess they were being tortured, Would you?

This one is a little over exposed.

This may be the one!! Don’t worry we will definitely find one that works.

I would hate to put them through this torture again.

At least until next year :)

On a side note my Mom asked me last night to please update my blog.

I told her I did Saturday.

She was surprised, then admitted she gave up checking for a while.

Won’t she be proud of me now!! 2 in a week!

That is if she checks :)

Leave me a comment if you haven’t given up on me!!!!!!!! :)

Have a Great Day!!

Changes, Changes , Changes

Wow! It has been a long time since I last blogged.

So many things in my life have changed since then.

Kids are back in college…

All crops are harvested…

my blog background…

But the biggest one for me is that I got a full time job!

For the last 10 years I have been subbing at the school my kids attend.

Also the school Tim and I both attended and graduated from.

A school I love and am very partial too! :)

It is a K-12 school all in the same building.

I have always loved subbing and being apart of this wonderful school system. I have subbed all over the school.

But for the last 2 years I felt that I should be doing something more permanent and with more hours.

It just made me so sad to think of not working at the school because I really enjoy it.

So when the high school secretary decided to retire I was hired to sub in that position till they hired a new secretary.

That’s when I discovered I loved the position of High School Secretary.

So I applied and long story short I was offered the job.

I accepted and I LOVE IT!!!

I have the same schedule  as my kids who are still in school, all my weekends, holidays,  and most of the summer off.

I really enjoy the people I work with and I still get to see the kids.

I feel very blessed to find a job that fits into my life so perfectly.

I am learning to be more scheduled at home. Planning meals ahead of time, throwing clothes in the washer and dryer right before bed then again first thing in the morning. picking up as I go…. the list goes on.

I just haven’t figured out how to fit in blogging yet. I still have time to quick read a few but it is hard to find time to post.

After today I am going to try to just post quick little posts to see how that works out.

We are on our fall break so I have a 4 day weekend!! WOOO HOOO!

(It’s funny though, I am looking forward to heading back to work on Monday.  (Who knew)

So I thought if I am going to blog it has got to be now!!

Oh and for your viewing enjoyment the dreaded school picture…

Yuck!!

susie school pic 2010

Oh well guess it will keep me humble!!!

So there you have it… an update!!

More to follow….. no promises when :)

Have a great day!

Washington DC part 3 / Something Sweet

I am finally finishing up Washington DC.

I think I have been putting it off because my favorite pic accidentally got replaced.

It was one Tyler took of me right before we left Washington DC.

I was standing about a mile away from the Washington Monument ( See last pic of Tyler in this post) in front of the capital building trying to make it look like I had the Washington Monument in the palm of my hand. It was a fun pic! But it is gone, unless somehow I can recover the deleted picture from my camera. It wasn't on the card because the card was full by then so it is actually on the camera memory.

Any who….

Lets proceed…

After resting up and changing clothes at the hotel we headed right back to the hub of attractions.

At this point it is only 1:30.

Tyler and I really wanted to see the Holocaust Museum.

He had done a huge project at the end of the school year over the Holocaust and was really interested.

We were not allowed to take pics of the displays…

Here is a pic from the outside.

S5030159

We spent a couple of hours in here and I still felt rushed.

Tyler at one point looked at me and said “How could this happen?”

I’ve have wondered that myself… One evil man Have you ever noticed that if you add a “D” to evil you get devil.

The point was Never Forget.

Don’t let this happen again.

Just thinking about it as I type has tears running down my face.

Next we headed to the Air and Space Museum….

S5030139

S5030144

This picture makes me laugh… I look tired but Tim looks exhausted..

Remember he hasn’t slept for about 30 hours in this pic

S5030141

Tyler is taking the pic and he is saying “Dad looks terrible!”

So we try again….A little improvement, very little

S5030142

I am not sure what Tyler said here but obviously we found it funny…

I actually think he was insulting are picture taking ability…S5030143

S5030152

S5030157

This was a huge rocket you could go inside of.

S5030154

More walking back to the truck…

Tyler taking a break

S5030158

Jefferson Monument, this is as close as we got.

S5030160

Next we headed across the river to Arlington Cemetery

My shoulder hurt from carrying my purse so Tim carried it awhile.

It was a good look :) What a great guy!! Thanks Honey

S5030162

We decided to take the tour tram… we were so tired of walking.

Here the guys are waiting for the next tram. I think Tyler is smiling because we don’t have to walk!!!

S5030171

S5030166

I cannot even begin to describe how big this place is!!!!!

S5030173

The graves of John F Kennedy, his wife Jackie, infant son Patrick, and Infant daughter ( no name, I thought that was kind of odd)

S5030176

S5030174

Jackie’s

S5030175

See no name just “Daughter” She must have been still born?

S5030177

Son Patrick…He was born 5 and a half weeks early and only lived for 2 days.

S5030178

I never realized that minor children and spouses could be buried at Arlington.

Next we saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the unknown soldiers…

S5030180

S5030184

Next we saw Arlington house…

From the front

S5030191

From the side… pictures just don’t do it justice

S5030193

Look at the view from here of Washington…

It was amazing…notice the airplane…All day long, every few minutes an airplane would fly in. I can’t even imagine how many people go and come in a day.

S5030190

ARLINGTON HOUSE ALSO SITS ABOVE THE KENNEDY GRAVE SITE.

S5030192

waiting for the next Tram to pick us up… I think they are ready to be done!!

S5030196

We left Arlington around 7:00 pm and started driving around looking for a place to eat.

We did drive by the Pentagon but I was too tired to even get out my camera.

We ended up picking up Wendy’s and heading back to the hotel to eat.

We didn’t get to the hotel till 9:30.

Long LOOOOOONNNNNNGGG  DAY!!!!

The next morning we packed up had are free breakfast…

S5030200

and headed out for a closer look of the Capital building before we headed home.

S5030218

Finally looking toward the monument….

S5030216

And this is where I would have put the really cool pic of me seemingly holding the monument between my hands…. SIGH!!

I probably should have broke this last post in to at least 2 but I was ready to be done with this…

I mean I still haven’t even posted my lake pics yet!

Plus here are a few tempting pics of my favorite new snack/meal

Making a fruit parfait

Fresh fruit, Light and Fit vanilla yogurt (the best) Fiber one cereal on top.

Granola is probably better but if your counting points and calories I would stick with Fiber 1.

YUM!!

Have a great Day!

Washington DC part 2

When I was a kid every once in a while my parents would takes us to a Travel log. It was usually in The Bluffton Movie theatre ( so you know how long ago that has been ) And usually aside from it being in a movie theatre I didn’t find it all that exciting.

So I hope my posts aren’t boring you all too much.

But if they are, lucky you can always exit out!! :)

This pic is taken from the Lincoln Monument obviously towards the Washington monument.

S5030103

Next we headed to the Vietnam Wall memorial

S5030104

The wall with all the names, started narrow and grew…

S5030105

The wall with our reflection, So many names, so many died.

So sobering, so sad!!

S5030107

Next we headed to the White House

Tyler thought all the corner street Vendors looked cool and wanted to stop for a treat.

S5030109

We thought we would all grab a snack

S5030112

until we realized that a simple good Humor ice cream bar costs $4.00 Tyler settled on  a lemon ice which we all shared. He is soberly displaying $4.00 here.

We asked if they did White House tours…

Basically you had to register 6 months in advance with your state government.

So this is as close as we got!

S5030114

S5030124

Next we headed to the Korean war Monument

Statues of soldiers

S5030128

S5030129

A reflection wall with etched faces. Do you see me in the middle?

S5030131

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE

S5030132

S5030133

S5030134

Now it was time to head back to the truck, our 3 hour time limit was almost up.

We saw this on the walk back. I just thought it was cool I am not sure what it really is.

S5030136

By now it was 11:30 so we decided to try and check into our hotel.S5030137

We were in luck and they let us check in early. Isn’t it lovely?

Actually it was clean, had a great free breakfast, was only about 2 miles from the capitol and was fairly inexpensive.

Sadly the pool was only open from 11:00 am to 8:00pm so we never got to swim. Plus as If you noticed the pool was in the middle of the parking lot :)

We changed clothes, I showered and we headed back out for more sight seeing!!

Well that’s all for today on Washington DC

Stay tuned for part 3.
